For a while now we have been planning a trip to the US and Canada, you might remember a post I did a few months back asking if anyone new of some must stop quilt stores. For part of the trip we were in Lancaster & Intercourse Pennsylvania, yep Amish country. We only had two full … Continue reading I am in Quilting Heaven
I am extremely lucky to work in the world of technology (ICT). I have done so now for more than 25 years, but this doesn’t mean that at times I don’t under how difficult people find technology. One of the reasons I work in ICT is to make it more usable. As a Director of … Continue reading Got to Love Robert Kaufman – Free Quilt Calculator
Been another busy day in the sewing room. I’ve created a new tablet sleeve design, it’s even lined with polar fleece. The pattern I created has worked out well and will fit a few different sized devices. I might even add a pocket to the next one.
I have made a couple of tweaks and we are getting there now. I think the next task will be a slip cover for a phone or tablet.
Another few hours of trying to tweak my zipper bag techniques. I have been working on how to get a better finish around the zipper on the bags today with thicker fabric. I have also gone for a hidden zip in the seem. Once I get the measurements done right this should look good I … Continue reading Playing with Zipper Bag Design
I have started a new Amy Ellis quilt. It funny how things happen. I purchased a Jelly Roll by Moda on Amazon a few weeks back called Modern Neutrals by Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis. As I had finished my Architecture quilt and don’t have any backing for my Jelly Roll Race quilt. I thought … Continue reading New Quilt Started
I wanted to reach out to the Quilting community for some help on quilt shops to visit. I have a big road trip coming up in a month. We are traveling from New Zealand to the east coast of the USA and Canada for 5 weeks. Below is the route we are taking and I … Continue reading Help Needed – Road Trip
7 weeks ago the Doe Roll Up by Carolyn Friedlander arrived and I started my Architecture quilt, today I finally finished it. It has turned out well I used the Widescreen – Grey by Carolyn Friedlander for the backing. I used a square decorative to sew the binding down. Here are some other photos of the quilt
As some of you may have found, if you don’t live in the USA it is very expensive to get your quilting fabrics, pre-cuts and notions. I have to say both Fat Quarter Shop and Missouri Star Quilt Co are great at giving a fixed pricing for International delivery, and I will note these below … Continue reading Tip For Purchasing Quilting Items From Overseas
For a few weeks now I have been wanting to make another modern style quilt. I had seen a range by Moda called Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis, it was released a little while ago, but I managed to find it on Amazon at Christa Quilts
I am a huge Jane Austen fan, from visiting her homes, going to locations she wrote about, and her grave. She encouraged me to read when nothing else would. Even to this day I argue with myself on whether or not Persuasion or Pride and Prejudice is her best work. Today while I was looking at my twitter … Continue reading Must Have Fabrics for Austen Fans
At the beginning of 2015 I decided it was time to go through the fabric stash and organise all my fabric I had into something easier to access and see. The main reason for this was to start using what I already had, instead of purchasing more fabric. I looked around the internet and found it … Continue reading Fabric Storage
I have been working on my latest quilt “Architecture” and it is driving me bonkers. In my head it is my most simplest quilt I have done in awhile, but man has it been difficult to quilt. Do you ever find that you buy a new piece of clothing, and if you spill something on … Continue reading Taking a Break
So in an attempt to stop looking at fabric and find a way to use up what I already have. I have found a site with a couple of designs that look great. The patterns are by Jeni Baker and the site is www.incolororder.com. Now I feel I should be honest here, I was looking at … Continue reading Patterns, patterns and more patterns.
You know when you can’t do something, you find you really want to do it. For me the deal I made with myself on not purchasing anymore fabric is getting rather hard to handle. I find myself looking online constantly at quilting fabrics, I guess its better than cat videos :o) I found this beautiful range … Continue reading Fabric Withdrawal
